Rebuilding Los Angeles
Announcing linear-magazine.org, a collection of resources to help rebuild LA
Linear is a publication for the Architecturally Curious™
We write about modern and contemporary architecture, what “design” actually means, and teach you the art of noticing. We’ll share uniquely-designed stays and design-led experiences. We host events too. Browse our collection, and subscribe for free.
Editor’s note:
I had intended to share a recap of 2024 in this newsletter. But, given the fires in LA I’ve made the decision to postpone the issue and dedicate it to sharing resources both for those affected by the fires and for those who want to help.
As of the time of this publishing, at least 24 people have died, hundreds of billions of dollars in property has been destroyed, and architectural landmarks including the Robert Bridges House (1989) on Sunset Boulevard, Ray Kappe’s Keeler House (1991) in Pacific Palisades, and all Park Planned Homes (1946–1949) in Altadena are lost.

Already, architects and builders are stepping up to offer resources and support for those affected – I’ve spent the past few days working with them and the Linear Community to consolidate these resources in one central place: linear-magazine.org.
For the folks impacted in LA, I hope this can be a resource for you to rebuild when you’re ready, and help you find your footing until then.
For the architects, designers, folks in the crafts and trades, developers, builders, or just the Architecturally Curious, I hope this can be a resource for you to make a difference and help rebuild LA.

Wishing you all, and all of Los Angeles the best. Looking forward to resuming our normal programming next issue.
