THE DEFINITIVE LINEAR STAYLIST
A hand-curated, evolving atlas of places we think are worth staying around the world
We’ve spent an unreasonable amount of time looking for spaces that feel LINEAR.
At some point, our search expanded beyond homes and buildings into hotels, villas, ryokans, inns, and holiday homes we couldn’t stop thinking about — places we’ve bookmarked for ourselves, sent to friends, or practically begged people to go stay in.
Over the last few years, we’ve curated more than 1,000 projects for the Archive, including 120+ stays across 40+ destinations around the world. Eventually, it felt silly not to collect them all in one place.
So here it is: THE DEFINITIVE LINEAR STAYLIST.
WHAT TO KNOW
Consider this an evolving atlas of stays we think are worth traveling for. More on what makes a stay feel LINEAR later, but it’s not all that different from what we think makes a great space in general.
Everything here is hand-curated and vetted by us.
We’ll add new stays as we discover them, so check back the next time you’re planning a trip. And if you need a recommendation for a city we don’t have yet…
WE’LL FIND YOU SOMETHING GOOD
Last year, we started a little experiment called CONCIERGE.
We asked you to tell us where you’re going, and we’d tell you where we’d stay. A surprising number of you took us up on it.
Since then, we’ve helped plan honeymoons through Japan, train trips through the Italian Alps, long weekends in Mexico City, and a handful of trips we’re still a little (very) jealous of.
Along the way, we’ve been able to help our readers get room upgrades, early check-in, late check-out, amenity credits, welcome gifts, and other perks. Which we think is pretty cool for a Substack.
If you’re planning a trip and want a more tailored recommendation — or just want to know what we’d would choose — we’re happy to help. Request a city in the comments, or send a note to CONCIERGE@LINEAR-MAGAZINE.COM with where you’re headed and what you’re looking for.
And we know what some of you are thinking:
Why shouldn’t I just book with Amex/Sapphire/Atlas? Because you like supporting an independent publication. CONCIERGE is free to use, but when readers book through us, our hotel partners pay us a commission that helps fund the magazine.
Plus, we’ll throw in a few extra perks along the way, like room upgrades, hyper-local travel guides, and a kind of hospitality that makes you wonder… when is LINEAR opening its own hotel?
A FEW FAVORITES
Our STAYLISTS are reserved for paid subscribers, but if you’re curious what kinds of places make the cut, a few of our recent favorites include Villa Flor in S-Chanf, Pocketbook Hudson in Upstate New York, and Black Sand Hotel just 40 miles south of Reykjavík. And if there’s a stay we should know about, leave it in the comments. We’re always looking.
See you down there ↓
